Tsvangarai quits, Mugabe wins

As usual, everybody cares but no-one acts
The Movement for Democratic Change has decided that there is nothing to be gained by going on with the charade of an election in Zimbabwe, now that Mugabe has decided to beat and murder his way to a win. Better to live to fight another day.
And what does Thabo Mbeki, South African President, say should happen now? That Mugabe and Tsvangarai should talk about a power-sharing deal. As if.
'Sharing' and 'Mugabe' don't belong together in the same sentence. Nor does 'democracy'. He also won't have anything to do with anything gay.
Mugabe has shut down the Anglican church, apparently because he believes it is full of gays and lesbians, whom he has described as 'worse than pigs and dogs'.
Well gee thanks, Robbie, we love you too. Quite how homosexuality came to be one of Mugabe's obsessions would be an interesting study in itself, but since he calls himself 'a devout Catholic' it is tempting to make some educated guesses.
What happens next? Zimbabwe has no oil, so we can't expect a US-led invasion any time soon, and folks there are black, so the UN will probably do nothing effective either (see Darfur).
The EU will probably confine itself to hand-wringing from the sidelines, because they don't want to be accused of colonialism, and, as we've seen, Mbeki and the rest of the African 'leadership' will confine themselves to saying, 'Now Robbie, don't be a bad boy. Sit down with Morgan and play nicely.'
What a collection of Pontius Pilates!
And so the new Idi Amin gets to eat his people for a few more years - or at any rate, the ones too weak and too poor to run away.
As usual, everybody cares, but nobody acts.
If ever there were a case for a standing independent multinational UN army, this is it. Without it, we might as well all give up and go home. A world body without teeth is a waste of time.
Just a thought - once America has a black president, perhaps the world will actually take the disfunctional continent that is Africa seriously. But don't hold your breath.

Meles of Ethiopia is one of them. Because he is doing our dirty proxy war in Somalia, he was allowed to
Steal the election in 2005 and murdered 200 people that protested.
Killed many thousands of people in the East and west of his country, in the guise of counterinsurgency that was said to be worse that darfur.

Really Long Link
Armed him to the teeth by breaking US and UN sanctions and funded his armament purchase from North Korea.
Really Long Link
Still aiding him on breaking international rule of law on the border with Eritrea
Really Long Link
Amnesty and Human rights watch documented atrocities that include murder, rape, torture including slitting of throats that makes him ten times worse that Mugabe.

And finally, despite giving him $2 billion/year, 12 million of his people are starving while he argues the numbers with aid agencies.

but, you will not hear all of this in the media, as it he is our SOB, news gets buried, diplomatic cover is given to him at the AU and UN. It just amazes me the hypocrisy of it all.

however, history is littered with such notorious mistakes, and more so Western international relations over the last 100 years, just ask anyone in South America!
As for that grubby, loathsome, dispicalbe rodent, (sorry rtas, I take that back, you are much higher developed) Mugabe, the murderous, homophobic, embezzling criminal, why doesn't someone shoot the bastard?
And what of Mbeke? After all that S.A. has been through, there he stands with his dick in his hand, suggesting the utterly ludicrous idea that they get together and work out their differences????!!!??
What annoys me about many of the African states, their governemnts cry poor and plead for help, then they rip their people off by pocketing the money and selling the produce donated, unless it goes to their supporters! We saw this happening in Burma recently.
Our world purview is all arse up, and ALL politicians are liars, even ours, so it would seem....
