Rainbow Report Jan 8
January 8th 2009 01:41
It’s Festival Time in Melbourne: the Midsumma Program has been launched, Pride March has been launched, and the ChillOut Festival Guide is about to hit the streets.
Tonight Brett Hayhoe explains the theme of this year’s Pride, while Simon Patterson will touch upon a few of the key events of Midsumma.
The fallout from the legal recognition of same-sex couples continues, with many older couples facing hardships: Graham Dougles-Meyer of the GLBTI Retirement Association explains why this is an issue for all retirees, not just gay ones.
And while we’re on the subject of retirement, Patrick Bonello looks at local reaction to the planned gay retirement village in Ballan, in regional Victoria.
Further legal changes affecting our community seem to have been put on hold: Corey Irlam brings us up to date with progress – or lack of it – on the human rights charter and the Equal Opportunity Commission inquiry into religion and adoption.
Tonight I’m assisted by Cathy Anderson and Tim Wilson, and of course the redoubtable Kaye Sera.
That's the Rainbow Report, 7-8pm every Thursday, Joy 94.9 FM, streaming live at www.joy.org.au. Join in 0427 JOY 949 / 03 9439 0402 / onair@joy.org.au - we'd love to hear from you.
