Rainbow Report June 18 7-8pm AEST

June 18th 2009 04:04
Joy 94.9 Radiothon

Tonight, another pot of nourishing GLBTIQQPA soup for the mind.

What’s that? Well, as usual the Rainbow Report has its finger on the pulse of political correctness, and the alphabet soup has some additional ingredients. According to the latest reports from the USA, we must now be known as (deep breath) – Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Intersex Queer Questioning Pansexual and Allies.

That’s a long string of letters. But even so, there’s still one missing. U – yes, you.

Yes, I know. Corny, isn’t it? The things we have to do to keep this station going.

Where was I? Oh yes – You. This is the time for you to take out or renew your subscription to Joy. For a mere A$66 dollars – that’s less than 20c a day - you get a whole year of rich nourishing GLBTIQQPA news and information, plus generous helpings of music, plus the chance to win tickets, CDs, DVDs all year long.

You’ve got to join Joy sometime, but if you do it now, during Radiothon, then thanks to our very generous sponsors you go into the draw for some terrific prizes and thank-you gifts. Imagine, goodies, just for joining, or renewing your membership. The total prize pool is worth over A$16k.

So please, give us a “fair suck of the soup cup” and call 9699 2949 now – operators are standing by to take your call. Oh, and don’t forget, if you make a donation, too – that’s tax deductible.

O)ur alphabet soup has just the letter for you. For example, The Rainbow Report tonight is proudly brought to you by the letter C. C is for Convicts.

Last week we mentioned that the Sydney Convicts gay rugby club would be making an appearance on the NRL edition of the Footy Show – the first time gay rugby players have appeared on the show – so far as we know, that is, and of course excluding Ian Roberts. We’ll be talking to club president Charlie Winn about how it went and why they asked to make the appearance.

C is also for China, where the first gay pride celebration has just taken place in Shanghai, and even got a favourable mention in the state-run press. But it didn’t all go smoothly, as we will hear from one of the organisers, Hannah Miller.

Tonight’s show is also brought to you by the all-natural colour Green.

Greens leader Bob Brown launched a new Galaxy poll this week showing that 60% now support gay marriage. The Greens have also been in the news because they wouldn’t support the government’s carbon pollution reduction scheme. Joining us in the studio we have Green National Convenor and local parliamentary candidate, Adam Bandt.

Topping everything off is the rather surreal bonnet sported by Kaye Sera this week - not so much floppy, more sort of melted, like a cheesy special effect. Something she picked up from the souvenir shop at the Dali exhibition.

Joining me in the studio, Cathy Anderson and Corey Irlam from the Australian Coalition for Equality.

Join me tonight, and join Joy tonigh 03 9699 2949 – take out or renew your Joy membership. And if you want to make a donation on top, don't forget that's tax deductible.
