Allegro Non Troppo Sunday 11-1

September 27th 2008 08:49
This weekend I’ll be taking the Addam Stobbs seat on Allegro Non Troppo, Sunday 11.00am – 1.00pm. Although I’m not exactly ‘musical’, Addams longtime co-presenter Peter Fortey and producer Robert Brierley assure me they’ll get me through the first hour.

In the second hour, produced by Bianca Johnston, I’ll be looking at the issue of aged care for gay and lesbian seniors. A recent report by the Matrix Guild and Vintage men painted a disturbing picture of the situation for the retired members of our community and those approaching retirement.

Joining me in the studio will be two of the people who put the report together – Project Co-ordinator Jane Kent and Researcher Catherine Barrett from Latrobe University – and entrepreneur Peter Dickson, who plans to build Linton Estate, a GLBTI retirement community in the Victorian country town of Ballan.

Join me on Allegro Non Troppo on Joy 94.9, streaming live at www.joy.org.au. The program will be available as a podcast and via the community radio satellite network.

Should Jeff Kennett Apologise? (LINK)

July 27th 2008 22:37
I wrote about this yesterday.

The story also made Channel 7 news last night.

And talkback radio station 3AW discussed it - the soundfiles are online if you follow the link.

On the same page they are running an online poll asking if Jeff Kennet ought to apologise for slanderously equating gays with paedophiles.

So far he has made the feeble response that his remarks were 'taken out of context' - it's hard to imagine what context could make his remarks mean anything but what they seem to mean.

Next he'll be saying he misspoke!!

This man is contemplating running for Mayor of Melbourne, a city which is very supportive of the gay community, not least because the current deputy mayor Gary SInger is gay man.

During his time Melbourne has overtaken Sydney as the principal gay city of Australia. All this would be down the toilet if Kennett gets up.

So please VOTE NOW to make him apologise at Really Long Link

Tonight on the Rainbow Report

July 24th 2008 06:51
Joy 94.9 FM
I have a cold/bug thingy, so the show will be hosted tonight by Tim Newton 7-8pm AEST Joy 94.9FM if you're in Melbourne Australia, streaming live at www.joy.org.au. Podcast available in a day or so from the Joy website.

Joining Tim in the studio tonight we have Demetra Giannkopoulos, co-convenor of the Victorian Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby, which is planning another Equal Love Rally on August 3.

VGLRL have said they're scaling down the rally this year. The Lobby is also looking for new members and people to take on executive roles - we ask why.

Last weeks show had a rather sporty feel, but this week we’re creaking at the joints a bit.

We'll cross live to the launch of the new gay and lesbian retirement home, LInton Estate, where Patrick Bonello will give us a report and maybe chat with the promoter, Peter Dickinson, and hopefully snatch a word with Choir of Hard Knocks Jonathan Welch.

Still on the wrinkly theme (memo to self, must top up super), the ALSO foundation has just held a seniors forum – CEO Lyn Morgain will explain why, and what the foundation is doing for GLBTI seniors.

Plus our usual chat with Rodney Croome down in Tassie, and a catch-up with post-papal events in sister sin city Sydney with Star Observer reporter Harley Dennett.

Tonight on the Rainbow Report.
